Designed for the future. You'll lead the way.

We’re looking for the next generation of strategic, visionary leaders. And we’re committed to investing the time and the money into developing them. Via a series of residential modules starting with Induction, and ending with a national celebration of your success, this modular programme will equip you with all you need to succeed.

Getting started

To gain the most from your first couple of months, we suggest you arrange meetings that provide an introduction to health and social care from the point of view of the clinician, practitioner and most importantly the patient. You’ll also need to gain an overall view of the NHS from primary care to acute hospitals and support services. You should also then start to understand medical and clinical professions and their role in the provision of healthcare.

Here are a few ideas about what your orientation programme should include:

  • an acute setting with a junior doctor
  • with the porters in the hospital
  • in primary care GP practices and primary care organisations
  • community physiotherapy
  • visiting mental health services
  • elderly care, working alongside social services staff.

Going further

Throughout the programme, you’ll get an insight into the range of NHS staff groups and services, and meeting with staff and patients will enhance your meetings with senior managers at trust and strategic level. We’ll ensure you’re kept up to speed with current health policy and the latest NHS developments.

We engage a leading development organisation to deliver this programme, who will have access to the key experts in health care and government to bring to life the issues you will be tackling in your NHS jobs. These experts will share their views and insights into service improvements and the future as they see it with lots of opportunity for debate and discussion. Chief executives and directors are invited to all the modules to share their real life challenges in the NHS so that you gain valuable experience and a network of support along the way.
